Ian Boswell

CYCLING

Bend, OR native, Ian Boswell, is a lifelong cyclist who spent ten years racing professionally on the road. Ian has accomplished athletic goals many cyclists only dream about, including completing the Tour de France in 2018, representing the U.S. National Team on the world stage, and participating in all three Grand Tours. In 2019, Ian survived a career-ending crash in the fourth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, which changed the trajectory of his life. After making the difficult decision not to pursue road racing in 2020, Ian has found new meaning in gravel racing, backcountry skiing, firefighting, and his job as athlete liaison at Wahoo Fitness. When he is not training to compete in some of the largest gravel races in the world, Ian is also the host of his podcast, Breakfast with Boz, which covers topics from gravel riding to world tour races and training tips. Ian chases #lifepoints from his home in Vermont with his wife and adorable puppy, Winston. Ian is as nice of a guy as he is an elite athlete, and we are thrilled to help him fuel whatever adventures come next.

Q&A with Ian

Who would play you in your biopic?
Howdy Dooty

Wildest memory / moment from competing?
Rolling into Paris and the Champs Elysees at the finish of the Tour de France, realizing that my childhood dream came true. I had been chasing my dream of racing in the Tour de France for so long and had been so consumed in the process and journey. It wasn’t until I finished the race that I was able to reflect on all the people along the way that helped me get there and all the sacrifice and work that went into racing in the world’s most prestigious cycling event.

Proudest non-sport accomplishment
Becoming a member of the Peacham Volunteer Fire Department. I am proud to live where I do and am honored to be able to give back to my community.

Best book you’ve read recently?
Norwegian Wood by Lars Mytting. This book is more utilitarian, as we burn wood during the winter in our Vermont farmhouse. The book offers tips and knowledge based on Scandinavian methods, which also reminds me of my Norwegian ancestry.

Why Picky Bars?
A wholesome and balanced diet both on and off my bike is a key part of my overall health and, quite frankly, my happiness. Picky Bars creates nutritional, balanced food I love to eat, with the convenience of portability and performance-enhancement. Beyond keeping me fueled while biking around the rolling hills of Vermont or gravel races around the globe, I admire and value the larger mission of Picky Bars of connecting people through adventure - in flavor and activity.
