Inspiration comes from weird places sometimes. Other times it’s as simple as sitting in your favorite coffee shop enjoying a latte on a cold winter day.
Whenever first test batches of new flavors come in we all play “guess the flavor” until Lauren mercilessly clues us in to the ingredients. For this one gingerbread was thrown around a lot, and (despite a glaring lack of vegetables) so were carrot cake and pumpkin pie. One very adamant midwesterner with deep roots in junk food insisted that it tasted “EXACTLY like a Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie.”
Once we knew Chai was the inspiration – cue the collective “ooooohhhhh, yeah that makes sense” – we sent a sneak peek bar to each Picky Club member and asked for name suggestions. We got our eventual winner from Katja Parrish, and now it’s here for real!
As always, the recipe goes far past just tasting good. The chai-inspired spices lace a host of benefits for athletes and snackers alike, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and calming digestive properties. Sneaky smart, that Lauren Fleshman. Always looking out for people’s tastebuds AND guts.
Chai And Catch Me’s “Star” Spice Features:
Cloves – Beneficial to both your athletics and everyday living, cloves are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-flatulent (Don’t be shy, everyone does it…)
Nutmeg – Full of properties that help relieve pain, soothe indigestion, and increase immune system function
Ginger – Helps to relieve gastrointestinal irritation, which calms and soothes your body while it does its job turning your food into fuel
Black Pepper – This powerful common spice is rich in trace minerals that are essential to basic body functions
Maple and vanilla balance out the spiciness, and a new blend of hazelnut and almond butter to really rounds it out. Add in cinnamon and cardamom to finish out the Chai flavor that inspired Lauren in the first place, and we think you’ll dig it.
… If you can catch it.
